At the KOA Cabin
At the KOA Cabin

I guess Lance regretted eating the 5 hot dogs. Too much too early, eh? Yes, too much too early. The day was ok but we had a few sprinkles that made it hard to see at times, especially when we were going downhill. Ryan got another flat, his tire keeps deflating. We stopped at this tiny little convenient store to fix it. I went in to grab some snacks, the guy behind the counter hardly had any voice left in him, much worse than a whisper. Lance had kept going so we didn’t know where he was, we hoped he was close.

Ryan got it working again and we crossed the street to use the restroom at the day-use only state park, waited for Lance to come back but decided to go look for him after a while. The ride wasn’t bad, small hills and short ones too, so it was a good day, despite the weather.

We came into Alsea, a really small town, there’s a bridge we had to cross to get to Walport but there was a KOA right before it and we were pretty wet, so we decided to stay there. Thankfully we did, cause the hosts who were also from CA (La Quinta) said there was a storm coming that evening. Ryan finally found Lance and came back to the cabin, we got some snacks, took showers, warmed up, and watched The Simpsons Movie and Shrek 2, while the storm went through. Thunder and all. The cabin was greeeeeeeeat! A tiny tv, tiny fridge and heat, more than enough.

The next morning we got up around 7am to make some pancakes, eggs & coffee and left around 10:30am. Crossed the bridge to Walport and found the library. It began to sprinkle…again. Sprinkles are not bad, except when you’re riding pretty fast it feels more like rain and you can get pretty wet…like we did later.

After spending some time at the library, had some lunch at the “Blue Whale” then rode 22.4 miles to Carl G. Washburne State Park. It was windy and we were wet again and pretty tired too, the wind was against us the whole time, it’s been like that for a while. We’re not biking as much but I think this is pretty good for our first trip. Going through all these hills and weather has really slowed us down.  This day we faced hills galore, not too steep but the weather was AWFUL! Rain, rain, rain.

'Round Cape Perpetua
‘Round Cape Perpetua

Well, we didn’t stop at Cape Perpetua because the weather was so crappy, plus, we had to go over a big hill to get to the site and we had to keep going to get somewhere to dry off. BUT, these have been the most beautiful days so far! Although rainy and foggy, the view…oh my, if you could only see. I mean, the beach, the coast, the cape, the grass, the rocks, the waves, the sand….everything was magical. I don’t think I was able to capture it in the pictures but this has been one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen, no doubt about it. I can’t imagine when the sun is out.

We got to the site and it was … MAGICAL. The trees around the hiker-biker campsite were just covered in moss, their trunks looked so green, it looked like fairy land. We could hear the chipmunks again and crows…I’ve never seen so many crows everywhere in my life like I have in Oregon. I really hate them. They’re so annoying, rude, and pretty sneaky.

The showers were pretty close which was awesome! most of the sites we’ve been to so far have been a long walk to them but these were just a few feet away. Nice, especially when it’s raining. We got some wood but it was worthless. We had something quick to eat and went to bed early since we couldn’t even sit on the benches, they were soaked. Throughout the night the rain woke us up a few times. In the morning, we quickly packed up to get the heck out of there without breakfast, all our stuff was soaked, bikes, tents, clothes, everything, even Lance’s sleeping bag. We decided to get to the closest town and dry off in a cheap motel. Oh! let me just remind you how bad chipmunks are…they ate our whole entire loaf of bread. All of it, they even took Ryan’s energy powder packs…for what!? as if they needed the energy?!?!

At the Lighthouse Inn
At the Lighthouse Inn

After a wet night and wet morning, we biked under the rain again for our 3rd day. The views were beautiful as usual but we were pretty cold cause it was windy and we were soaked to the bone. Lance got a flat on the way up a long hill, it was not a pretty situation. While Ryan fixed it, a few bikers passed us and they asked if we needed anything, they traveled pretty light, something we should be doing. Eventually  the flat was fixed and we all got along again. These were long 16 miles of hills, wind, and rain, thankfully not too steep. I think this was the worse day yet for me, I was pretty miserably, I rather bike uphill than bike wet and under the rain with wind, it was freezing. I hate freezing.

K…so we got to Florence early evening, it cleared up as we came down the hills. The sky was still cloudy though, we didn’t know how long the break would last. We  stopped at the bike store which oddly was also a guitar store. Stayed at the Lighthouse Inn and got warm and cozy, ordered dinner and enjoyed the comfy room. We watched Finding Nemo, Home Alone 1 and 2. It’s been a while since I saw those Home Alone movies, they are pretty funny still.  I went to bed while the guys stayed up watching more. So we’re still in Florence, we did some laundry and now we’re spending some time at the library.

We’re on our way to Honeyman State Park, only 5 miles away, today’s our rest day. I hope it doesn’t rain in between here and there.

Hopefully we can post some more later.

Thanks for reading we’ll talk soon.
