Alaska around 10 or 11pm
The skies are beautiful. You don’t even realize it’s midnight and you can see everything around you. The sun never quite sets and then it begins to rise. We drove about 3 hours and set camp somewhere in Kenai (KEE-nah-ee), a sweet invitation from Cameron’s friends. Locals and natives that love to camp during summer months, and drink mimosas early in the morn’. The drive to Kenai was again beautiful. We saw one moose (first picture), a female one, crossed the road in front of us and hid behind bushes.
Before getting to camp, we stopped at the St. Elias Brewery in Soldotna. Great beer! It’s also a restaurant and they have really good food. We got two growlers to share with the fellow campers along with our rum :)

After setting up camp in the freezing weather and super windy…we got the fire going and the rum warmed us all up. You’ll see how well bundled I was but I was warm :D The sunglasses were not for any fashion statement, it was to keep the smoke out of my eyes so I could see everyone. It was a ton of fun, his friends were great hosts and eventually we all went to bed. I don’t even remember at what time, probably some time past 2am after Ryan and I took a drunken stroll to see the sky and laugh out loud.
I woke up around 9am or so and I was on fire. I still had all those layers on, I peeled them off like onions. Thirsty and with an unpleasant headache, I went back to sleep, so did Cam. We all woke up with our friends laughing, preparing mimosas for us all. Woke up, had some of that, and walked around to see the morning sky. Still beautiful. We headed out to Homer to check out the “spit” and stop by to beer taste and have some fresh halibut. The others spent their day fishing and clamming and drinking some more. Thank you guys for a lovely camping experience! Thanks for the invite :)
See pictures on the next post of our Homer adventure.
Ryan took all the sunset pictures from the car, they came out beautiful…right? Towards the end of the pictures, you’ll see photos of the mountains with snow and a long peninsula looking thing that goes towards the water, that’s the spit and it’s a huge touristy area.
