Alaska Boat Tour

Ryan, Cameron, Brandon (Cameron’s brother) and I – We took a ride and drove over to Seward, Alaska, about 2.5 hrs from Anchorage. Then took a four hour boat tour that was unbelievably beautiful. The hope was to see some whales but they weren’t in the mood to see us. Mountain goats, puffins, birds, sea otters and bald eagles were out though and didn’t mind the attention.

I fell in love with puffins, so cute! The water was amazing, it was green, like Listerine…I’m not kidding you. Just like mouthwash, it was weird but cool. The best view was seeing the green lush mountains against the snowy mountains and glaciers. The yellow stuff you see on the water is pollen, crazy huh?

The boat ride was fun. I was afraid to get sea sick but I took some stuff and was gooooood. Glad I did cause that boat was rocking and rocking and up and down and all around. The best and most fun, was trying to walk through the boat while it was going up and down. It made me crack up like I do when I ride a rollercoaster. It was so much fun. I felt drunk without being drunk…ha!

It was freeeeeeeeezing. That wind just about blew all of us over. I layered up really good and felt fine (cause I’m a genius). The captain invited us in for a little while in the cabin, which was much appreciated cause it was beginning to rain a little. We were pretty much the only ones out there, in the cold & wet upper part of the boat.

So if you’re ever there, I recommend, one: take motion sickness stuff one hour before you board. two: bring lots and lots of layers of clothes if you want to be outside. It’s no fun being inside, you don’t get to see a whole lot. and three: bring some money for snacks OR better yet, eat before you board so you don’t spend money in the boat. Last: bring some water and a camera!

We got back pretty late, after 9pm some time and we were so hungry but nothing was open. It was still pretty light out, felt like it was about 4pm or so, still getting used to this 20 something hours of day light. We had some chowder at the only open restaurant and they ended up giving us free left overs…delishhhhh! Another 2.5 hrs back to Anchorage awaited us…bleh! Finally got home and pretty much crashed. It was a great day though, cold and long, but full of beautiful nature. So long Seward! so long.

Enjoy the pictures.

Beautiful scenery. You can feel the chill in the air just by the atmosphere in the pictures.

Dona,

These photos and your description make me want to be there with you guys. I love being on boats and I would love to feel the cold breezes blow. Seoul has been hot and muggy. It rains some. It suns some. Then I sweat a lot. I believe the Koreans on the subway think that I blew a gasket and sprung a leak. You and Ryan look great and I am certainly glad you guys get to spend some quality time with Cam. Maybe you should think about coming to Seoul at some point in the next 2-3 years? I signed the contract on our house today. We got a nice place high on the side of a decent sized mountain with trees and gardens surrounding it. We have plenty of room and will begin making our own kimchi, soon.

Joe! Thanks for reading my friend. You guys were certainly missed during our Alaska adventure. It would have been extra fun with you there. No worries, we’ve discussed going to visit you and it’s certainly in our minds. Somehow, we’ll try to make it happen, should be really exciting seeing Korea again. I’m not too fond of kimchi but I’ll give it another try :) I remember being in the bus and it was not a good experience. The bus driver decided to not drive because some lady got on with her stroller. I don’t know what the deal was, just know they were screaming at each other and he put the bus in park. At that point, we decided to get out and walk. Anyway, can’t wait to see your new house. I wanna move into your house in Tucson, if only we could move it here?

These are great shots. Makes me want to cruise Alaska. Some really good ones of you and Ry together and you alone. I could feel and smell the air. How great you got to go.
