For my photography class, our lesson last week was about composition. You’d think it would be easy, I mean, all you gotta do is point and shoot, the object is not moving and it won’t change, right? But it is NOT as easy as it sounds or looks. You have to take your time to choose the right Time of Day (TOD), the right Point of View (POV), and come up with good composition taking into consideration: the rule of thirds, your background, your lens, and the symmetry or asymmetry, framing, among many other things.

I somehow forgot to read the material before I went shooting, so all of that I just mentioned was non-existent in my mind when I went to San Francisco. After class ended, I spent a few hours walking around trying to capture as much as I could. It was a huge challenge for me because it was really sunny at 3pm, so the shadows were too dark and the lights were to bright. It was a high contrast time of day and nothing in between. I was getting really frustrated, got tired and came home. When I realized I hadn’t read the material, I went back and read it and found out I had done the assignment totally wrong! Ugh. Not only did I shoot at the wrong TOD, but I didn’t compose my shots with enough variety and different perspectives. So I did what I could and I turned it in cause it was due that night. I don’t know what my grade is yet. I’m keeping my fingers crossed. I’ll post the grade as soon as I find out.

Enjoy!

UPDATE: I got an A-! (I’ll consider A-’s A’s from now on, just for my own sanity)

You capture the mood of this architectural city. The detail in some of the photos is filled with depth. I liked the two cameos of : Mr. Ry Houck and St. Patrick’s Church.
