Documentary Series

This was perhaps the most difficult assignment for this class. Mostly because I had no clue where to start and what would be interesting. I was extremely frustrated. After all, I think I over complicated myself in the first place thinking about it, but I finally came through. I’m happy with it, but I have a feeling he’s not going to like it very much. I’m hoping for an “A” but I feel a “B” coming…I’ll let you know.

GOAL: To create a photo-documentary series of a subject such as people, things, or places that you are passionate about. Between 6-8 images and it needs to be a good story line (cohesive). You’re supposed to be telling a story about something you care for. Needs different points of view, and interesting compositions, so you can’t have all images from the same POV. Additionally, write a paragraph explaining why you chose that subject.

I think I’ll get a “B” because I don’t have different POVs and my shots are mostly close-ups. I didn’t know what else to do since I was in the kitchen, it’s not like I could have taken a long shot…that would have been less than boring. By the way, the muffins came out pretty funny. They’re a little chewy texture wise, but they tasty pretty good. I blame the molasses for the consistency and I’ll blame myself for using molasses vs. agave nectar…but I couldn’t find it!!! so I decided to give it a try with the brown sweet stuff and the muffins look like they are molasses muffins. BUUUUT, they ARE good. SO there.

So here’s my story:

Every three weeks we get a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) box at our doorstep full of organic produce from local farms. You can choose what to and what not to receive but I decided to let it be a surprise. This way, it forces my husband and I to eat a variety of food and in season. My husband is pretty open to anything, so that really helps.

This past week I got beets in the box and we both hate them. So after much hesitation, we juiced them and i used the pulp to make beet and orange muffins. Because we compost and both of our composts are full for another week, I had to figure out what to do with this pulp.

This subject is important to me first, because we support organic farming and our local organic farms. By doing this, we are not only caring for our health and environment but most importantly, we keep real food on our tables. So much food these days is filled with everything but “food”. This is a decision we’ve made for ourselves: to know what we’re eating, to eat real food and to learn about food. We strive for healthier life not only for ourselves but for our (hopefully) future children.

The photos are supposed to be lined up in one row but because it’s too long, I have to post it this way. I feel like it looses something having it this way, but, oh well, you get the point. I’ll give this recipe another try, the correct way and post the instructions too :)

UPDATE: I got a “B+”….just like I said I would, because of what I said ;) I’m still happy.
