Hiking to the Beach

San Luis Obispo is a beautiful place by the ocean, with hills topped with ice plants, eucalyptus trees and lots of sand and fog. We headed to the area to see our cousins and stay the night, thank you guys for having us over! We really enjoyed the time we spent with you and Savannah. It was nice to talk for a while! We hadn’t been able to do that with them as we’re always in a big family get together, and you know how big family get-togethers are…a bit distracting for long conversations, but nice indeed.

They live in this super cute yellow and white house…with a white picket fence, SO cute. The house looks smaller than it actually is. It’s really foggy around there and cloudy for the most part they say. We got to talking, eating, and catching up. They made us a nice dinner: HUGE steaks, rice and zucchini and I watched Sierra make her delicious zucchini bread! It was so good, I got the recipe. Thanks for all the goodies too, we took some lemons and zucchinis from their backyard and a whole loaf of fresh zucchini bread…yummo!

The next day, Eric took us on a little hike that led to the water, it was so pretty but the smell of seaweed was horrendous.The rock formations were pretty cool, the seaweed was pretty nasty looking, they look like giant sperm or alien creatures. We found hundreds, maybe even thousands of hermit crabs stuck on the rocks. Eric found a couple of star fish too. It was a weird contrast to see the dirty sandy hills with ice plants, against the rocks on the beach and the water. Nevertheless, it was really pretty and easy hike. There was tons of eucalyptus trees around there, I wish our house was surrounded by them. Aaaahhh, the smell. Soothing.
