Some people don’t really put as much thought into what they’re going to eat. I’m constantly thinking about it. It’s another to-do list. What should we have for breakfast? What should we have for lunch? What should we have for dinner? I admit, it could be a little stressful sometimes, and I know it sounds silly. But when I’m trying to eat right, it takes work, time and lots of patience, something I don’t have much of.
For Ryan, breakfast can be anything…cereal, beer, toast, coffee, eggs, pizza, muffins, gummies…lol I like a warm breakfast. I grew up with beans, rice, eggs, tortillas, coffee, flour, cheese, cream, etc. Lots of starch, dairy, caffeine, corn. So it’s been a long process for me to change my habits, the ones I grew up with. I’m trying to make better choices that will actually make me feel good through out the day and give me energy. I used to hate oatmeal, but now we have learned to make our own, and we love it! Sometimes we have that, sometimes we have sprouted toast, sometimes we have raw fresh fruits with raw almond butter (cause I hate peanut butter), sometimes we have eggs and beans with toast.
With new goals in mind, I struggle a bit with breakfast the most. I drink coffee for the smell and taste, not necessarily for energy. I don’t have withdrawals if I stop drinking it. I usually cannot even finish my one cup. I just like a few sips. But my goal is to eliminate it and drink tea instead. We’ve been juicing daily, green juice, slowly removing the amount of fruit we put in it. Lately, we’ve been getting down to greens and half an apple and a few carrots. It varies but we use any combination of kale, chard, celery, wheatgrass, apple, carrots, cucumbers, ginger, tomatoes, lemons, broccoli, zucchini, oranges, pears, something like that. We drink that first on an empty stomach and then have breakfast, although I think we should wait 30 mins after drinking the juice to have breakfast. I’m looking forward for the summer, to get berries and have more of that for a morning meal. *slurp*
The final goal for me would be to have a smoothie for breakfast. Sounds easy but when it’s freezing cold all I want is warmth, anything cold like a smoothie just makes me want to crawl back into bed. Maybe in the summer time will be different…we do have smoothies, but usually for lunch.
Oatmeal, hemp seeds, goji berries, cinammon, & honey
