I know I haven’t posted anything in a while. It’s been a little crazy for us, looking for a new place to move into within the next few weeks or next month was not easy. We finally found what we feel is a perfect little home, in a great location, paying less for more. More in many ways. More about that later though…
Now onto our vacation…
Ryan’s first time in Nicaragua, my first time exploring the hidden jewels of that country, my country I know so little about. I haven’t been to so many places, there is so much to see, 3 weeks is not even half enough time to see everything. If you don’t know anything about Nicaragua, it’s just beautiful. You can be here for months and still find new things to do and see. There is so much history and gorgeous beaches, forest, lakes, historic sites, culture, music, cities, towns to see, food to eat, fruit to taste.
I’ll start adding photos per trips, to make it easier to talk about. It’s been raining, on and off, tons of humidity, sometimes unbearable for me, but I think I’m good now, although my hair is like a frizzy cloud. It’s not playing nice, I’m trying to not pay too much attention to it.
So we went to Masaya, a little unexpected trip. It’s one of the touristy markets, I’ve been there a gazillion times. You’ll find local arts and crafts, handmade clothes and shoes, purses, paintings, things for the home, pottery, hammocks, jewelry, etc. After we went to another market to get some fruit I’ve been craving. We sort of got lost cause it’s GINORMOUS. There, you can find anything you can dream of. From food, to clothes and shoes, etc, etc. It was pretty humid, and the ground is just dirt, so puddles everywhere…bad idea was wearing flip flops. We finally found the way out, my mom’s friend took us. I was satisfied with all the fruit and felt it was worth the trip.
Later, we went to Catarina to see the Apoyo Lagoon. Last time I was there was in 2007, but this time was a little better, we got to stay there and relax, take it all in and the weather was perfect. To be there up high, seeing all the green around us, that big water vessel, feeling the breeze, was magical. I haven’t been to any other place like that, where you’re up high, looking at such vast area of nature into a giant crater full of water…gorgeous view.
We drove later to have delicious juices…100% fresh fruit. Something to remember was: pineapple, mint, orange, ginger…mmmm…mmm!
Back at home we showered after a long sticky day and went to this amazing Spanish restaurant. It was so good, I can’t even tell you. We had shrimp, calamari, croquetas, bread, tortilla española, and stuffed peppers with tuna and I had to have a glass of sangria. That put everyone to sleep.
We’ve enjoyed the sounds of the birds, the frog out the window, the sound and smell of the rain, and the early risings. So much more to come…so much more. For now, this is it.
